Translation theories translated in Brazilian online journals in the last ten years: an overview

This paper conducts a bibliometric investigation of articles on translation theory that were translated into Brazilian Portuguese and published in Brazilian journals specializing in Translation Studies between 2013 and 2023. The aim of this study is to quantify these articles, identify the journals that published them, and assess the organization of indexing information, such as titles, keywords, and translators, as well as authors, languages, year, and mediums of publication of the source-texts. The quantitative and qualitative research identified 15 active and discontinued journals, of which eight published 171 translated articles on translation theory written individually and collectively by 163 authors. The results highlight that 46 articles do not contain keywords; 73 were collective translations; 130 were from contemporary source-texts; and 105 were from texts published primarily in journals (76 of which were open access). Additionally, English was the predominant source-language (75 articles), followed by French (41) and Spanish (26), with other languages being less represented. In conclusion, the practice of publishing translations of translation theory is increasing, but there is still a lack of standardization in indexing and an apparent predominance of theories from Global North authors, suggesting the need for greater linguistic diversity in translated translation theories to enrich the Translation Studies in Brazil.
