Daniel Martineschen nasceu em Curitiba, Paraná. É tradutor e professor do curso de Alemão na UFSC. Venceu o Jabuti 2021 de melhor tradução com os versos de o Divã Ocidento-Oriental (2020), de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Além de Goethe, traduziu também obras de Aleida Assmann, Sabine Richebächer, Jörn Rüsen, Anna Seghers, Detlev Claussen, Gerd Kohlhepp, Mathias Konzett, M. Huber, Christian Russau, K. Matzler, Friedrich Kittler, Detlev Holz (Walter Benjamin) e Sylk Schneider. Esta entrevista é um diálogo sobre tradução, dividida em duas partes. Primeiramente, trata de temas relacionados à tradução em diversos casos, como em Goethe, onde ele afirma na obra Divã Ocidento-Oriental a existência de três tipos de tradução. Discorre ainda sobre a colocação de Walter Benjamin referente à sobrevida do texto através da tradução. Ademais, são partilhadas experiências sobre a tradução colaborativa. A segunda parte aborda alguns aspectos que se relacionam ao paratexto de Effi Briest. Por fim, Martineschen fecha a entrevista com recomendações para aspirantes a tradutores.
