This review critically reviews the book Clarice Lispector - Weltliteratur?: Übersetzungs- und Rezeptionsdynamiken im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert by Leonie Meyer-Krentler, which offers an in-depth analysis of the global circulation, reception, and translation of the work of Clarice Lispector, one of the most influential writers in 20th-century Brazilian literature. Meyer-Krentler explores how Lispector's work has transcended linguistic and cultural boundaries, being translated into multiple languages and receiving different interpretations around the world. The book examines the complex dynamics involved in translating Lispector, especially between the Global South and the literary centers of the Global North, such as Europe and the United States. It highlights Lispector's unique ability to evoke universal issues through deeply personal and poetic language, challenging translators to capture the essence of her writing in different cultural contexts. Moreover, Meyer-Krentler analyzes how Lispector was received in different countries and how her work influenced other writers around the world. The author also discusses Lispector's ongoing relevance in contemporary world literature, exploring her lasting impact and her position as a central figure in global literature.
