A literatura como material para formação linguística e crítica em Língua Inglesa: uma possibilidade didática

Literature is capable of reflecting the linguistic and sociocultural diversities that are inseparable from language. In line with this idea, we believe that the development of English language teaching anchored in the use of literary texts enables a different dimension of knowledge construction. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate a didactic proposal for using literature in the English language classroom to develop linguistic and critical skills. Firstly, I present a theorisation about the teaching/learning of English language based on literature as teaching material, then I discuss English language literature in school contexts for linguistic and critical development, and then I propose an activity using a literary text as a tool in order to observe a critical analysis that allows us to conceive the quality of the use of literature as a valid resource for teaching/learning from the perspective of linguistic and critical training. It was concluded that literature presents a pertinent didactic possibility in the teaching and learning of English in linguistic and critical aspects.
