BARROCO: O ROUBO DA RUÍNA A RELAÇÃO ENTRE BARROCO E MODERNISMO NO BRASIL

.Abstract
This article discusses how the ideas and the institutional conduct of a group of modernist artists and intellectuals, during the twenties and thirties of this century, were responsible for the development of a knowledge on Brazil and for the creation of the National Department of Historic and Artistic Preservation (SPHAN). It is in this context that the modernist group rediscovers the Barroque, the founding locus of culture and the main reference for the discussion of a theory on the nation structured by its temporality. The group takes possession of the baroc ruins while ascribing a meaning to the past and inventing a future for the Brazilian nation.
