SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE: IMPLEMENTATION OF SIX SIGMA METHODOLOGY IN A PUBLIC HOSPITAL IN CAMPOS DOS GOYTACAZES, RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

: Aiming at the enhancement of the quality of services provided focusing on job security, the Six Sigma methodology was applied in order to assess the occurrence of accidents and propose actions for their reduction at a public hospital in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The DMAIC methodology and quality tools were used. Regarding the characterization of accidents, there was a prevalence of typical accidents occurring in the work place caused by sharp objects affecting the upper limbs and the sectors with higher incidence of injuries were the Intensive Care Unit and Pediatrics Emergency Room. From the outcomes of the assessment, corrections were made by means of a plan of action. The conclusion was that accidents can be avoided and / or minimized with the knowledge of basic safety standards and the use of personal protective equipment.
