Ciudadanía transnacional de los latinoamericanos en Portugal: considerando el país de origen y de destino

In Portugal, Latin-American immigrants can exercise their active and/or passive political rights in local elections, depending on the country of origin and whether there is a reciprocity principle in place. In the case of Brazilians, there exists an exceptional system and reciprocity is promoted to Equality of Rights, which grants Brazilian a status that isalmost equal to nationals. On the other hand, if considering citizenship in relation to the country of origin, some citizens are able to vote abroad (Brazilians, Argentineans,Ecuadorians, Peruvians) while others are not (Uruguayans). This article elaborates on the innovative concept of transnational citizenship, considering how it can be exercised in relation to the country of origin or destination.
