ABOUT THE BRAZILIAN JOURNAL OF AGROECOLOGY

The Revista Brasileira de Agroecologia (Brazilian Journal of Agroecology- RBA) has been published since 2006 by the Brazilian Association of Agroecology (ABA-Agroecologia). In September 2023, it has began a cooperation with the Postgraduate Program in Environment and Rural Development (PPG MADER), and it is now available at the scientific Journal Portal of the Universidade de Brasília. It is an open access publication and free for reading, editing and publishing articles.

RBA Focus and Scope

The mission of RBA is to disseminate and socialize, through open and free access, original and unpublished scientific studies and research in Agroecology, carried out in Brazil or abroad. It seeks to contribute to the construction of agroecological knowledge. Agroecology is understood as a science, a movement and a social practice, which adopts a scientific, theoretical, practical and methodological approach that articulates different areas of knowledge in a transdisciplinary and systemic way, aiming at the development of sustainable agri-food systems in all their dimensions. As examples of areas of knowledge, we can mention, among others, Ecology, Agronomy, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography and Economics, as long as they address perspectives for the development of basic agricultural styles, ecology and sustainable development.

The RBA accepts submissions in the categories of: Articles; Agroecological Notes; Letters to the Editorial Board; Book/media/event reviews; Summaries of dissertations or theses; and Interviews. The Agroecological Articles and Notes categories are subject to blind peer review. The other categories are evaluated by the Editorial Board.

Only eminently theoretical essays or literature reviews that present a critical and innovative approach, based on current references, developing innovative perspectives that contribute to the advancement of Agroecology will be accepted. Theoretical essays or reviews limited to concepts and principles of Agroecology that are widely disseminated and publicly known will not be accepted.

Open Access Policy

The Revista Brasileira de Agroecologia is an open access journal, which means that all of its content is freely available, at no cost to authors, users or their institutions. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full texts of articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without requesting prior authorization from the publisher or author, as long as the source is cited. This is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.

Periodicity

The Brazilian Journal of Agroecology is a quarterly publication.

Peer review process

Submissions to RBA, provided they are within its scope and follow the submission guidelines, will be evaluated by at least two ad hoc reviewers, using a blind review system. The invited reviewers must be professionals with recognized training and experience, working in educational, research or extension institutions, in Brazil or abroad, and cannot be members of the RBA Editorial Board. In their evaluations, they may suggest the following decisions: accept with changes; require a complete review and new evaluation; or do not publish. If there is a majority of opinions indicating one of the recommendations, the responsible editor will indicate this to the authors. If there is no consensus among the reviews, new reviewers will be invited. Accepted submissions undergo text editing for grammatical or syntax adjustments.

When appointing reviewers, conflicts of interest of any nature will be avoided by not appointing reviewers who work at the authors' institution or who have collaborated with them. In the case of submissions by members of the RBA editorial team, the necessary measures will be taken to ensure blind review by independent ad hoc reviewers.
