About the Revista Brasileira de Agroecologia (Brazilian Journal of Agroecology)
The Brazilian Journal of Agroecology (RBA) is available free of charge, with no costs for authors, users or their institutions, nor does it charge fees for article processing. It has been published since 2006 by the Brazilian Association of Agroecology (ABA-Agroecologia). In September 2023, cooperation began with the Postgraduate Program in Environment and Rural Development (PPG MADER), when the RBA became available on the University of Brasília's Journals Portal.
RBA does not charge fees for article submission, processing, or publication.
Scope of the RBA
The mission of the RBA is to disseminate and share, through open and free access, original and unpublished scientific studies and research in Agroecology, carried out in Brazil or abroad. It seeks to contribute to the construction of agroecological knowledge. Agroecology is understood as a science, a movement, and a social practice that adopts a scientific, theoretical, practical, and methodological approach that articulates different areas of knowledge in a transdisciplinary and systemic way, aiming at the development of sustainable agri-food systems in all their dimensions. As examples of areas of knowledge, we can cite, among others, Ecology, Agronomy, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, and Economics, when they address perspectives for the development of ecologically based agricultural styles and sustainable development.
The RBA accepts submissions in the following categories: Articles; Agroecological Notes; Letters to the Editorial Board; Book/Media/Event Reviews; Dissertation or Thesis Abstracts; and Interviews. The categories Articles and Agroecological Notes are subject to double-blind peer review. The other categories are evaluated by the Editorial Board.
Articles that are predominantly theoretical or literature reviews will only be accepted if they present a critical and innovative approach, based on current references, developing perspectives that significantly contribute to the advancement of Agroecology. Theoretical essays or reviews limited to widely disseminated and publicly known concepts and principles of Agroecology will not be accepted.
RBA Ethical Principles
Ethics in publication
RBA follows the recommendations of the Committee on Publications Ethics (COPE), and its principles of transparency and best practices in academic publishing.
Research Ethics
In cases of research dealing with access to traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources, or involving humans, both in the health and social sciences, authors are responsible for complying with legislation regarding research ethics. By submitting their manuscripts to RBA, authors declare that they respect the norms regarding research ethics, assuming full responsibility for any problems that may arise from the publication of their work. RBA has no legal responsibility for the content of published articles.
RBA seeks, as far as possible, to prevent the publication of works with violations of research ethics, including plagiarism, falsified data, harm to communities or individuals who participated in the research, and discrimination. However, no journal can guarantee that these cases will go unnoticed. If there are reports of ethical misconduct in research, either before or after publication, the Editorial Board will take appropriate measures, which may include withdrawing the publication and reporting the case to the interested individuals and institutions.
Without the consent of the interviewees, the names of these individuals, the names of sampled families, or any other form of identification of informants and/or participants who were part of the research as sources of information or collaborators will not be permitted in the text. All informants must be identified only by codes pre-established in the methodology.
Periodicity
The Brazilian Journal of Agroecology is a quarterly publication. In addition to regular issues, it may also publish special, thematic issues, for which specific calls for papers are issued.
Digital Preservation
The Brazilian Journal of Agroecology has its digital preservation carried out by the Public Knowledge Project Preservation Network (PKP PN).
Also, as part of the service of the UnB's Periodicals Portal, where the RBA is hosted, daily backups of data and files are performed, ensuring its preservation.
