This editorial in issue no. 17, vol. 9 of PatryTer – Latin American and Caribbean Journal of Geography and Humanities – summarizes some aspects of the debate held by Amalia Inés Geraiges de Lemos, Professor at the University of São Paulo, on Latin American metropolises. The continent's major cities have been the subject of her extensive scholarly work throughout her intellectual life, fully justifying the tribute paid to Dr. Geraiges de Lemos in this issue. Alongside this tribute, articles from Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Mexico are presented.
