This paper studies the design of the architect Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) from 1923 to 1938 as a particular research on the idea of architecture as geometry, especially of space delineated through vertical and horizontal flat surfaces. We see this architect’s investigation as a constant, with the development of his own resources, in unbuilt ideal projects, unbuilt real projects, temporary exhibition spaces and constructed buildings, with different degrees of intensity.
