Author Guidelines

1. At the time of submission, it should be taken into account to which section the work will be submitted, according to the Section Policies, noting if it is an open section for submissions;

1.1. The sections "In defense of research" and "Return Notebook" are open to submissions and the sections "Dossier", Walking Words", "Generating Themes", "Insurgent Dialogs", "Political Poetics" and "Liberation Praxis" are not open, depending on invitations to submit by the Editorial Board or by each Organizing Committee of thematic dossiers;

2. Submissions to the sections "In defense of research", "Dossier", Walking words" and "Generating themes" should have originality and/or novelty;

2.1. The Editorial Board and the Organizing Committee of the thematic dossiers may recommend and publish articles published previously and in other journals that have not been in Portuguese;

3. Submissions to the sections "In defense of research", "Dossier", "Walking words", "Return notebook" and "Generating themes" should have a maximum of 3 co-authors. Any exception must be requested and justified in advance to the Editorial Team by e-mail « insurgencia.revista@ipdms.org.br »;

4. The authorship or co-authorship is forbidden, and there must be significant contributions to the manuscript, according to items 17 and 18 of the Guidelines of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development - CNPq, of 12 April 2012;

5. Manuscripts should be written from the models provided or alternatively use Times New Roman font, size 12, line spacing of 1.5, with left and top margins of 3 cm and right and bottom of 2 cm. Footnotes, explanatory, should use the font Times New Roman, size 10, justified, being forbidden the use of these notes exclusively for insertion of URLs/links. Citations with more than three lines should be made in new paragraph (skipping a line between the preceding and the following) without quotation marks;

6. The reference system should be in the Author-Date format (ABNT NBR6023), without the use of high boxes, and the final references should follow the ABNT NBR6023, updated in 2018, using italics for emphasis. The examples used in each section template should be strictly followed;

7. Submissions will be accepted in Portuguese, Spanish, English, French and Italian, all papers must have titles, abstracts and keywords in Portuguese, Spanish and English;

8. The specific guidelines for each section should take into account the following criteria:

8.1. Sections "Dossier", "In defense of research" and "Walking words":

  1. Submitted files must be formatted according to the Submission Template for the sections "Dossier", "In defense of research" and "Walking words";
  2. The files must not contain mention of authorship of the works. It is suggested that the names "Author" be deleted or changed with possible variations, if there is more than one authorship;
  3. It is recommended that the articles have between 15 and 35 pages, considering the totality of the archive;
  4. The papers should contain title, abstract (maximum of 800 characters, counting spaces) and keywords (between three and five) in Portuguese, Spanish and English;

8.2. "Insurgent dialogs" section:

  1. Files submitted must be formatted according to the Template for submission to the "Insurgentes Dialogues" section;
  2. It is recommended that the interviews have a maximum of 30 pages, considering the totality of the file;
  3. The interviews should have at least one introduction page, contextualizing author and work;
  4. A abstract (with a maximum of 400 characters, counting the spaces) and 3 to 5 keywords in in Portuguese, Spanish and English must be sent in a document.

8.3. Section "Return notebook":

  1. The submitted files must be formatted according to the Submission Template for the "Return Notebook" section;
  2. It is recommended that the reviews have a maximum of 8 pages, considering the totality of the file;
  3. It is desirable that an image of the cover of the reviewed work is inserted in the review file itself or sent by the system;
  4. A brief abstract in Portuguese, Spanish and English, as well as 3 to 5 keywords in the three mentioned languages, should be sent as a document.

8.4. Section "Political poetics":

  1. The file with the submission should be in editable format (such as .doc), and it is desirable to have an explanatory text about the artistic interventions/ photographs etc., in addition to the good quality images inserted in the file;
  2. It is recommended that images are also made available in shared folders so that their original quality is maintained. The folder link should be in the previous file;
  3. It is recommended that artistic productions should not exceed 10 pages, considering the totality of the file;
  4. A brief abstract in Portuguese, Spanish and English, as well as 3 to 5 keywords in the three mentioned languages, should be sent as a document.

9. In the act of submission, it is mandatory to fill in the title metadata (do not fill in the fields "prefix" and "subtitle") and authorship, without a high box;

9.1. The other information will be filled only and obligatorily to the file "form of authorship data", which can be transferred to the system by clicking on "##common.addFile##". In case of impossibility to upload the file in the system, please send to the e-mail « insurgencia.revista@ipdms.org.br »;

9.2. The ORCID is a mandatory criterion, its absence will make it impossible to publish the work in case of approval.

10. Files must be submitted in .doc or .docx formats;

11. The authors should be aware of the Statement of Ethics on Publications of the Journal, which is mirrored in the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), defining the standards of ethical conduct for authors, Editorial Board, invited editors, Dossier Coordinators and/or Reviewers; as well as they declare to have contributed significantly to the manuscript, according to items 17 and 18 of the Guidelines of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development - CNPq, of 12 April 2012;

11.1. A report of suspected misconduct, which must comply with the guidelines for good practice and ethics in the publications mentioned above, may be made by e-mail « insurgencia.revista@ipdms.org.br ». The Ethics Committee of the Editorial Board shall receive and deliberate on the issue;

12. No fee shall be charged for the submission and processing of submissions;

13. Texts may be automatically rejected if the format required above is not observed. The Editorial Team is empowered to request the adequacy of the works, thus avoiding automatic rejection;

14. In case of use of images, photographs or other artistic interventions, the authors must have authorization to publish them and must present a term of assignment of use by the owner of the copyright; being its own authorship, shall also be attached same authorization. The authorization is free format, but must necessarily contain identification of the transferor and assignee, the object of the assignment, the information that may be published in InSURgence: journal of rights and social movements, date and signature of the transferor;

15. Interviews submitted for the "Insurgentes Dialogs" section must have permission from the interviewee to be published. The authorization is free format, but must necessarily contain identification of the interviewees and interviewers, the object of the authorization, the information that may be published in InSURgence: journal of rights and social movements, date and signature of the interview.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The contributions destined to the sections "In defense of the research", "Dossier", "Walking Words" and/ or "Generating Themes", the authors express that the work is original and/or unpublished, except in the case of item 2.1 of the Guidelines for authors or sections that do not require these criteria.
  • The authors state that the work is not being evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise, it undertakes to justify in "Comments to the editor".
  • Upon completion of the submission, the authors express that they have read the About the Journal page and agree with the InSURgence Journal’s policies regarding Peer Review Process, Copyright, Free Access, Retraction and Archiving.
  • Upon completion of the submission, the authors declare that they have read and are in agreement with the Declaration of Ethics in the Publications of the InSURgence Journal, and declare to have contributed significantly to the manuscript, according to items 17 and 18 of the Guidelines of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development - CNPq, of 12 April 2012.
  • Upon completion of the submission, authors authorize the publication of submitted documents, taking responsibility for their authorship and/or their rights of use, and agree that, in case of publication, this will be carried out under a Creative Commons License Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International.
  • The authors are aware that, in case of verification at any time of ethical conflicts, plagiarism, redundant publications, use of materials without rights of use, infringement of copyright or absence of declaration of conflicts of interest by the authors, the InSURgence Journal reserves the right to retract publications based on the guidelines developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics - COPE.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in Guidelines for Authors. In case of scientific article, the submitted file follows the "model available for the sections "Dossier", "In defense of research" and "Walking Words". In case of review and short articles, the submitted file follows the template provided for the sections "Return Notebook" and "Generating themes". In case of interview, the submitted file follows the template provided for the section “Insurgent Dialogs".
  • The submission does not contain cross citations or self-citation at excessive or predatory levels.
  • All elements that allow the identification of the authors were removed from the text and file. The username has been removed in "Document Properties", MS Word "File" menu option. To ensure the complete removal of personal information, follow the steps here.
  • The texts informed in the submission system should not use upper case, with the exception of observing the rules of the ABNT (Brazilian National Standards Organization) for the preparation of the References. Titles should be inserted in full in the "Title" field, and the fields "Prefix" and "Subtitle" should be disregarded.
  • The names of all co-authors were informed, as well as the data "Institution/Affiliation", "Summary of Biography" (containing at least the description of the highest academic degree) and "ORCID ID" in their records.
  • It should be completed and attached in the submission system or sent to the email «insurgencia.revista@ipdms.org.br» the file "authorship data form".
  • I declare, under the terms of the Brazilian General Law for the Protection of Personal Data, that I agree with the processing of my personal data informed in this submission for the purpose of possible publication of a scientific or academic work in the InSURgence Journal.

InSURgent dialogues

This is a section dedicated to publishing interviews with researchers and activists who have relevance to the relationship between rights and social movements. The interview section of the IPDMS magazine is a tribute to the popular lawyer Miguel Pressburger, rescuing, in its name, the proposal of an insurgent praxis for law.

Dossier

It is a section dedicated to organizing, from a theme chosen for a particular edition of the magazine, a debate related to specific areas of the general theme rights and social movements.

In defense of research

It is a section dedicated to socializing research, essays and free articles that, in critical key, contribute to the construction of reflections and proposals related to the theme of rights and social movements. The free articles section of the IPDMS magazine is a tribute to the writer and militant Patrícia Galvão (Pagu), rescuing in its name the title of an essay written for the edition of October 26, 1945 of the weekly Vanguarda Socialista.

Walking Words

It is a section dedicated to disseminate pressing debates of critical thinking, legal or not, at the international level, with a special focus on the theoretical production of Latin America and giving opportunity for dialogues with researchers in the field of law and social movements. The section of debates based on international articles in the IPDMS magazine is a tribute to the Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano, recovering, in his name, the title of his book Walking Words, which expresses the oppressions and the magic of the Latin American continent.

Generating Themes

It is a section dedicated to encourage the elaboration of texts that, without losing their rigor with research, allow the dissemination of syntheses about expressions, concepts or institutes, which have multiple interpretations or meaning, concerning the general theme that relates rights and social movements. The articles section of the IPDMS magazine is a tribute to popular educator Paulo Freire who included, in his pedagogical proposal, generating themes to be worked together with the consciousness of the popular classes.

Return Notebook

It is a section dedicated to critical interpretations, through reviews, recent or classic publications of texts and books of interest within the theme rights and social movements. The review section of the IPDMS magazine is a tribute to the Martinican writer and politician Aimé Césaire who, as a poet of negritude, wrote Notebook of a Return to My Native Land, a poem of redemption of black identity and criticism of colonialism.
