Abstract

Observation of the language shows that speakers use not only lexical units to constitute the speech, but also more or less fixed word combinations. We call these combinations phraseological units (PUs, PU in the singular). An essential characteristic of these PUs is that the speaker perceives them as units of meaning, even though he notices the presence of several lexical units. Another feature refers to its use. A speaker who uses a PU chooses to express himself in a more motivated way than when he chooses only free lexical units. The present work aims to present translation aspects between Portuguese and French in relation to PUs.
