Simone Weil. Work. TraduXio.Abstract
The present portuguese translation of Condition première d'un travail non servile by Simone Weil introduces readers to an essential work offering a critical and reflective analysis of the condition of workers in the modern industrial system. Partially published in issue no. 4 of Cheval de Troie in 1947 and fully in La Condition Ouvrière by Gallimard in 1951, as part of the Espoir collection under the direction of Albert Camus, the text reflects Weil’s unique experience as a factory worker. In these reflections, Weil examines the social and economic dynamics that perpetuate oppression and alienation, highlighting the dehumanization caused by the loss of meaning in labor. She further proposes a reorganization of labor structures that transcends mere productivity, aiming to restore human dignity, existential purpose, and a spiritual connection between the worker, their activity, and the world.
