Author Guidelines

Papers submitted for this publication can be written in Portuguese, Spanish and English, always obeying the cultural norms of the languages, in the following modalities: (a) Article – minimum of 6,000 and maximum of 10,000 words; (b) Reviews – minimum of 1,500 and maximum of 3,000 words; (c) Essay - reserved for guests.

Registration in the system, and subsequent access or login, are mandatory for submission, as well as for monitoring the evaluation stages. All registration fields must be completed (full name(s), affiliation, country, biography, title in Portuguese/title in English, keywords/keywords). Authors must be entered in the system in the order of authorship/co-authorship.

All papers must be unpublished and cannot be submitted to another journal while awaiting evaluation. The express content is the sole responsibility of the author. The Revista Espaço e Geografia eschews any responsibility for opinions produced by the authors.

Rules for Paper Submission

The texts in their different sections must respect the minimum and maximum number of words defined above. The total of words corresponds to the entire text, including abstract, title, bibliographic references and footnotes (which should be kept to a minimum).

Two files must be delivered. The first, named "Text", which must be attached as the file containing the article and must present only the title in Portuguese, title in English, abstract, keywords, abstract and keywords, without the names of the authors. The second named "Cover", which should be attached in complementary files, with only the title in Portuguese, followed by the title in English; below each author's full name with affiliations, country, addresses and e-mails. If you have more than one author, make it clear which author is responsible for correspondence with the Editors, using the term “Corresponding Author” next to the respective name. If the text has a source of funding or support (public and/or private) it must be informed on this first page. The text will only start on the second page, putting the title (in Portuguese and in English), the abstract (and abstract) and the keywords (and keywords) again.

Resumo and Abstract: must have a maximum of 350 words each, written in Times New Roman of 11 points, according to the norms of NBR 6028, of the Brazilian Association of Technical Norms (ABNT). It is essential that the Resumo/Abstract presents the general objective of the text, the methodology used, the results obtained and the conclusion. The use of citations and references is not recommended.

The keywords/keywords must be different from those that appear in the title.

Acknowledgments: will be included in the text only and if the text is approved after the peer review (double blind).

Financial Support: The authors must identify in the manuscript all the financial support obtained for the execution of the work and other personal connections related to the accomplishment of the same.

The text must be written in Word A4 format, with 1.5 spacing; use Times New Roman 12 point font, 2.5cm left and right margins. The text must be formatted in a single column.

Figures, tables, maps, charts and other illustrations cannot bear the name of the author(s) and must be inserted in the body of the text.

Citations must be in accordance with ABNT NBR 10520, as exemplified below:

Direct citation less than three lines (must contain double quotes and page number):

If, on the one hand, when we claim to be just a resource, scales are unbalanced, on the other hand, in practice, “the result is the production of territories horizontally designed by borders and encircles, documents and rules, forcing agents and their resources to authority” (MARSTON et al, 2005, p.420).

Indirect citation:

Thus, a set of criticisms made against “materialists” points to scale as a methodological resource (CASTRO, 1995)

a) Direct citations in the text, with more than three lines, must be highlighted with a 4cm indent from the left margin, Times New Roman Point 11 and used without the quotation marks;

b) Indirect citations of several documents by several authors, mentioned simultaneously, must be separated by semi-colon, in alphabetical order.

[...] the one in which democracy would have more legitimacy, bringing, according to its advocates, the population to actual participation and not only through representatives (AVRITZER, 2009; PATEMAN, 1970; 2012).

c) It is recommended to avoid as much as possible the use of apud;

d) The references will be presented at the end of the work, in alphabetical order of the author's last name, according to the examples presented below:

--> The evaluation process consists of two stages. <--

1) Evaluation by the Editorial Committee

For the text to proceed to blind peer review, it is first necessary to meet the following criteria, which will be analyzed by the editors of the Journal:

(i) articles that are outside the scope of the journal will not be accepted. Therefore, the texts must be the result of an analysis that has the geographic space as a focus.

(ii) Clear and understandable texts, in accordance with the cultural norms of the language in which the article is developed.

(iii) Articles must be in the format determined in the “Guidelines for Authors”, especially with regard to: (a) minimum and maximum word length; (b) abstract, bibliographical references and citations in accordance with the respective ABNT standards; (c) title in the language in which the text was produced, in addition to the title in English (if the article is in English or Spanish, present the title, abstract and keywords in Portuguese) and (d) keywords other than those that appear in the title.

(iv) Space & Geography Journal will use a similarity detection system in this first stage of evaluation. If the detection of the system presents parts of the text or full text submitted, the article will not proceed to the next stage. It is suggested that the author(s) be attentive to correctly cite the sources.

2) Evaluation by the Scientific Committee (ad hoc consultants)

After the editors' evaluation, the text will be sent to two evaluators that make up the Journal's Scientific Committee (ad hoc consultants), formed by PhD researchers from different national and international institutions with works published in the most different areas of knowledge in Geography. The evaluations will be carried out based on the Appraiser's Form delivered by the editors of the Journal and, in case of divergence of opinions, the article may be sent to a third evaluator or the decision will be taken by the Editorial Board. All articles are sent without identification of the authors, ensuring a double-blind evaluation system.
