This study undertakes a creative investigation of the narrative in 'Grande Sertão: Veredas', aiming to reconstruct the musical and poetic elements of its discursive fabric within a song. The work begins with evidence about the sonority of João Guimarães Rosa's writing, from the perspective of the relationships between music, literature, and the popular songbook. Considering the premise that rhythm is the mechanism through which the layers of meaning in Riobaldo's narrative to his interlocutor move, particularly those related to the devil, the song 'O medo da gente' was produced as a musical translation of this mechanism. With this, the study seeks to demonstrate that the crossing of the great backlands is achieved in the dimensions of rhythm, melody, harmony, and word.
