Abstract

In this paper, we intend to analyze the short story “Horror no morro” (Toda noite é um abismo, 2019), by the Brazilian author Felipe Teodoro from theories of the fantastic, especially the ones elaborated by David Roas and Filipe Furtado. We intend to, furthermore, identify the presence of the aesthetic effect of cosmic horror in the text and its meanings within it. The story is based in a Brazilian slum and presents throughout its plot different shapes of horror to a child, who is the main character of the story. Possibilities that either reality or a supernatural scenery are responsible for the negative experiences lived by the boy are developed in it. We seek, therefore, to analyze these different possibilities inside the text from the theories above mentioned.

    Possui graduação em História pela Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba (2012), é mestre em Estudos Literários pela Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP/FCL-Ar) e doutoranda no mesmo curso. É membro dos grupos de pesquisa (CNPq/UNESP) Vertentes do Fantástico na Literatura, e (CNPq/UERJ) Estudos do Gótico. É editora na Diário Macabro, editora dedicada ao horror e fantástico.
