Abstract

The main goal of this article is to analyze Jane Austen’s 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice by detecting the elements of the historical, political and social context regarding the events related to the English militia. For this purpose, the Napoleonic Wars were briefly described, and the postulates of the New Historicism were adopted as the theoretical line of thought and they were methodologically associated with the principles of the content analysis.     Graduada em Letras Inglês no IL/UnB. Aluna regular no mestrado da UnB em literatura. Professora de Língua Inglesa, atuante na Cultura Inglesa Idiomas e na Cooplem. Possui certificação de Cambridge (CAE, IELTS, TKT 2 e TKT 3). Estudou em Londres, especificamente na Excel (curso avançado de Inglês) e na Hampstead School of English (Teacher Immersion). Participou no ano de 2016 da Conferência Internacional em comemoração aos 450 anos de Shakeaspeare, no Globe Theatre.
