Abstract

The current wave of labor unrest in the United States, evidenced both by the creation of new unions in traditionally unorganized sectors and by the increase in the strike appetite of unionized workers, was followed by a sudden increase in protests in defense of black lives on a global scale as a result of the
murder in May 25, 2020 of George Floyd for Minneapolis politics. Although the literature that has analyzed the globalization of the Black Lives Matter movement
neglects the relationship between the anti-racist struggle and the revitalization of unions, there is much evidence capable of revealing this intersection. In this article, we intend to analyze a specific case that points to an intimate connection between the fight for racial justice and the fight for economic justice: the creation of the Amazon Labor Union (ALU), the first Amazon union in the country.
