Availability of social impact of public libraries

This article aims to propose a set of indicators to assess the social impact of public libraries. It adopts a qualitative approach based on a systematic literature review, complemented by a thematic analysis and validation by experts. Twenty indicators are grouped into five dimensions: digital inclusion, information literacy, social cohesion, civic participation and subjective well-being. The results show that these indicators reflect significant social transformations, often invisible in traditional assessments. The proposed framework allows the analytical criteria to be adapted to different local contexts. It also promotes a reflective and participatory culture among information professionals. The study concludes that social assessment enhances the democratic function of public libraries and strengthens their legitimacy in contemporary public policies.
