Abstract

It attempts to make a comparative analysis of the representations constructed by the literature of the nineteenth century in relation to the American frontier and the border. The intention is to demonstrate that the United States of America was an apologetic text production of its first pioneers, cowboys and then, as intellectuals in the River Plate have created a black legend of the gauchos, who would only be challenged by the imposition of gaucho literature the last decades of the nineteenth century
