Utopia, imigração e a Colônia alemã de Una, Bahia no contexto histórico
Abstract
The text deals with the issue of migration in a historical perspective. In focus is the problem of migration and the German government’s project of Bahia to become German immigrants in Una, south of the region’s cocoa. The overview of the migration issue in the 1920s, is drawn from the constraints of the post World War I, particularly in the Weimar Republic. For its part, the circumstances in the State of Bahia, which reports both to the political, economic and social rights, particularly in regard to problems involving land ownership, are discussed. Why Bahia not become a destination of transatlantic immigration flows in general, and specifically German is the central question of this study. The empirical research conclude that, due to the historical context of Bahia, based on German immigrants in its territory in the period in focus, it is in practice a real utopia.
