Abstract

This article examines the discursive construction of evangelical masculinism in Brazil as a response to neoliberal crises, framing it within political and religious conservatism. Drawing on post-structuralist theory (Laclau & Mouffe, 1985) and gender performativity (Butler, 2018), it investigates evangelical masculinism movements such as Machonaria and Nação dos Homens Fortes. Through participatory observation, digital ethnography, and interviews, the study demonstrates how these groups reinterpret traditional virility as a spiritual and political project, transmuting economic precarity into cultural antagonisms. The findings reveal evangelical masculinity functions as a neoliberal technology of power, naturalizing gender hierarchies while reinforcing authoritarian discourses and adapting religious narratives to capitalist demands.
