Direitos humanos e exclusão moral

Apesar da maior circulação de informações e da ampliação do debate público depois do retomo à democracia, as violações dos direitos humanos não têm despertado maiores reações da opinião pública. Este texto examina a reação de não-indignação e de aparente aceitação de violações do direito à vida como um sintoma da presença de fortes obstáculos para a construção de uma sociedade democrática. As raízes da aceitação são exploradas através da análise dos dados de diversas pesquisas, considerados à luz das teorias sobre justiça social, direitos, relações entre grupos e exclusão moral. A participação dos cidadãos na formulação das leis permitiría a pacificação e o controle da violência.
