USO DE TÉCNICAS DE SENSORIAMENTO REMOTO PARA ESTIMATIVAS DE ÁREA INUNDADA EM EVENTOS DE ENCHENTE NO RIO NEGRO – PR

The study addresses the application of remote sensing techniques to estimate the flooded area caused by flood events in the Rio Negro, Paraná. With a watershed of 9,768 km² covering 22 municipalities between Paraná and Santa Catarina, the Rio Negro, spanning 350 km in length, has historically been prone to gradual floods. The largest floods occurred in 1983 and 1992, each displacing around 5,000 people. This work focuses on analyzing a flood event from July 1996, using satellite images from the LandSat series, the only ones with sufficient quality for this study.
Images captured on July 14 and 30, 1996, represent, respectively, the flood period and the river's regular level. The analysis was conducted using the MultiSpec W32 software, allowing maximum likelihood classification to identify the water-covered area. Based on the corresponding pixels and the satellite resolution (30x30 meters), the flooded area was estimated. Additionally, the image data were correlated with the historical series of river levels and flow rates.
The research highlights the relevance of remote sensing in environmental monitoring, demonstrating its application in flood events to generate accurate estimates. This method is essential not only for academic studies but also for aiding in natural disaster management and territorial planning.
