Abstract

This article examines the poetic and discursive framework of artist and philosopher Lee Ufan. We analyzed a painting from the series Correspondence (2003) and the sculpture Relatum – dialogue (2010) in light of Lee’s perspective on the “art of yohaku” (the art that embraces empty space and its surroundings) as a mode of relating to and transforming oneself with the more-than-human world in artistic practice and experience. Therefore, it is argued that yohaku can be perceived in Lee’s works as a Ma spatiality, characterized by the mediation of zones of coexistence with the world that invite us to affection and to participation.
