INSTITUTIONAL CRITICISM AND CONCEPTUALISMS IN ARGENTINE ART: THE WORD AS A POLITICAL EMBLEM
Abstract
This work presents a brief institutional trajectory of Argentine art, throughout the 1960s
and 1970s, focusing on the Instituto Torcuato Di Tella and CAYC – Centro de Arte y
Comunicación. Both entities are analyzed in the light of the growing repressive ap-
paratus supported by the military regimes in the country, in order to understand how
the authoritarian echoes reflected in institutional agendas and, in particular, in artis-
tic production. In this context, a new direction in art is noted, marked by the political
radicalization of several artists in confluence with the adoption of increasingly experi-
mental proposals, which sought to break with previous traditions.
