TYPE OF REPRESENTATION OF A HOUSE DRAWING IN SCHIZOPHRENIC PATIENTS
Abstract
The representation of a house drawing has been studied
as an element indicating the evolutive level of personality and its psychopathological
manifestations. Our objective was to survey the characteristical
indices of house representation among 100 male and female adult
patients diagnosed as schizophrenics and seen at the Psychiatry Service
of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto - USP, with emphasis on
characteristical types of representation, structural and evolutive aspects
of the drawing, and aspects indicating logic integration and contact with
reality. The characteristical indices were first defined and then listed, and
the protocols were classified simultaneously by two psychologists with clinical experience. The data were discussed as a function of the meaningful
value of the indices and the general impoverishment of the type of representation
and elaboration was characterized, denoting the regressive aspects,
impairment of logic and primitive defense mechanisms typical of
schizophrenic pathology.
