This article seeks to analyze the limits and possibilities of Tourism being a process of building a place of memory in communities marked by an image of urban violence. The research deals with the tourist phenomenon from the perspective of resident communities, which provides opportunities for tourists to participate in their daily lives in favor of strengthening citizenship, inclusion and appreciation of individuals and sustainability. When questioning the possibilities of Tourism being an instrument for valuing the history and memory traced in a territory, with marks of social exclusion and urban disqualification, through the capitalist logic of the use of the city, the administrative region of São Sebastião, in DF, was identified as as an enabler of this case study. Methodologically, this is an exploratory-descriptive and analytical study, with a qualitative bias, which uses bibliographic research, documentary research, thematic analysis as data collection and analysis tools. As results, the trends that portray the process of tourism development in peripheral communities and their possible reflections on the city of São Sebastião/DF are exposed.
