This article analyzes the tourism consumption of two groups of households, those including children (under 18 years) and those including seniors (above 60 years). Tourism consumption was analyzed using the average per capita tourism expenditure with respect to the age of individuals and other family characteristics, such as gender, ethnicity, zone, and health insurance. The analysis was conducted using data from the 2017-2018 Brazilian Household Budget Survey. Tourism expenditure for households with children increases as the age of the younger individual increases. For households with seniors, tourism expenditure decreases with aging. While the gender of the household head has a significant influence on tourism expenditure when children are present, the effect is not significant when seniors are present. Other variables also have relevant effects on tourism expenditure, although with complex patterns that are further discussed in the article.
