This study has as its point of departure the analysis of the news abour tourism and tourists in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the 1920’s, as depicted in the illustrated magazines (Careta and Fon-Fon). Due to the advancements and challenges to consolidate the ”“ at the time ”“ federal capital as a touristic spot, gradually, the cartoons published in those Rio de Janeiro magazines became an important source of criticism ot that process. Therefore, mediated through the element of humor, the cartoons informed the reader, by means of of the characters that portrayed the social actors (authorities, representatives connected with tourism, cariocas ”“ Rio’s natives ”“, tourists) and reflected in a critical way upon the construction of the touristic make-up of Rio de Janeiro.
