Tourism in Fernando de Noronha - A vision of sustainability from structuralism

Abstract

The archipelago of Fernando de Noronha, also known as the “Emerald of the Atlantic” because of the greenish color of its waters, has established itself as one of the most sought after tourist itineraries because of the lush natural beauty. Since the early 1980’s, tourism has been growing on the island and concern for the conservation of natural heritage size was implemented making the place an Area of Environmental Protection (APA) and a National Marine Park. Among the theories of tourism, we highlight here for this vision of tourism in Fernando de Noronha, the structuralist theory conceived by Professor Mario Carlos Beni, presenting the archipelago through sets of environmental relations, organizational structure and operational actions. Thus, this article aims to demonstrate, through this theory, such as tourism time practiced in Fernando de Noronha can be considered sustainable.
