US Strategic Dependence and militarization on Latin America (in the Trump era)

This paper addresses the US strategic dependence on Latin America in a geopolitical scenario of decadence of US hegemony, based on the analysis of the offensive for natural resources (minerals and energy) and militarization (military assistance and training) during the years of Donald Trump’s administration. A qualitative methodological strategy is used, focused on the survey and triangulation of documentary sources articulated to the theoretical discussion. It is emphasized that the confusing methodologies of official databases and scattered sources of public access documents end up obscuring the dynamics of how military assistance and economic assistance operate in an articulated manner, to cover certain objectives and interest. It is concluded that militarization is deepened
but that theoretical and empirical review is necessary in historical key to understand changes and continuities.
