The main objective of this paper is to defend the need to weaken the idea of truth inherent in the doctrines of most religions. This is the way for the integration of religions into the democratic ideal of contemporary societies. The argument starts from Heidegger's critique of the metaphysical concept of truth and then, based on Gianni Vattimo, deals with the implications of this critique to religious pretensions of affirm definitive truths, and finally shows that the space of religions in the democratic process can only be that of participation in the construction of consensus, never that of imposition of absolute truths.
