AN IRENAEAN THEODICY: JOHN HICK’S CONTRIBUTIONS ON THE PROBLEM OF EVIL

In his work Evil and the God of Love, John Hick classifies theodicy in Augustinian and Irenaean. From the teachings of Irenaeus of Lyon, Hick deveplops a theodicy that conceived the evil as divine purpose to stimulate man to evolve morally and to become aware of his likeness to God. Hick contrasts the Irenaean to the Augustinian one for considering it more plausible because it to admit the relation of God with the origin of the evil.
