Information professional performance in knowledge management

Abstract

This paper aims at analysing the competencies and abilities of information professionals as knowledge managers. Thus, after analysing the main topics related to knowledge management, we have identified in the literature and in the adds' sections of two major newspapers in São Paulo, the main characteristics demanded of knowledge managers. We got to the conclusion that librarians and other information professionals have the characteristics that enable them to act as knowledge managers and that the abilities they need to develop are, mainly, of a personal nature
