Live memories of Goiás (Brazil): the creation of its archives

Abstract

Describes an effort developed in the Brazilian town of Goiás (GO) towards the recovering and preservation of its archival records, sponsored by the University of Brasilia’s Departamento de Ciência da Informação e Documentação (its course on archival management) and the country's national institute for preservation of historical and artistic heritage (Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional) with the objective of proposing the creation of an archival institution in that town. Both the understanding of the nature of the existing documents kept in the local institutions and the interaction resulting from the students' and local community work are presented.
