Citronella oil concentrations in the control of cattle tick

This research was aimed at evaluatingin vivo effects of different concentrations of citronella oil on control cattle ticks. Twenty Holstein cows were allocated in four groups of five animals. The treatments were the negative control, amitraz at 0.025% and citronella oil at 3 and 4%. Engorged female ticks were evaluated on animals before (mean of days -3, -2, -1) and at 3; 7 and 14 days after treatment. The mean efficacy to control ticks was 93.8; 22.5 and 39.1% for the amitraz and citronella oil at 3 and 4%, respectively. The use of different concentrations of citronella oil has partial control of the tick.
