The article discusses the foundations of genealogical critique in Foucault, based on the structure he presents in his text "Nietzsche, Genealogy and History". From this text, we examine the relationship established by Jurgen Habermas and its ramifications in authors such as Rudi Visker, who takes up the question of the conditions of possibility of genealogy as criticism. In the development of the article, we present the perspectives developed by Judith Butler and Daniele Lorenzini, who argue that Foucault has different normative foundations from those demanded by Habermas, which enriches the debate. This is better understood when we consider an aspect of genealogy that goes unnoticed, but is crucial in genealogical investigations: the dimension of possibilising.
