Abstract

This article analyzes the debate on the place of ancestral knowledge in modern Africa. The aim is to deepen the relationship between ancestral knowledge and contemporary philosophical debates, exploring the interface between criticisms of ethnophilosophy and the valorization of ancestry. Secondly, the text explores the relationship between philosophy and politics in modern Africa, especially when discussing figures such as Senghor and Nkrumah. The debate around ancestry impacted and guided the struggle for independence and the identity formation of the newly created African nation-states. Based on a philosophical analysis of the texts dealing with the issue, the study shows the complexity of this debate and the consequences it can have on the search for the construction of a strong and respected Africa.
