the principle of compositionality and the principle of context in Frege's logicism

This article aims to highlight the fundamental difference between two essential principles in Frege's logicism. At first glance, the principle of compositionality seems to have taken the place of the context principle in Frege's project. However, our intention is to demonstrate that these two principles reside in distinct domains of logic and philosophy, despite being connected to the same project. To achieve this goal, we will initially conduct an analysis of the works "Die Grundlagen der Arithmetik" and "Über Sinn und Bedeutung." Next, we will explore Lehmann's proposal for the formalization of the principle of compositionality. Finally, we will investigate whether Frege did indeed abandon the context principle and discuss the reconciliation between these two principles.
