Abstract

The political philosophy of John Locke is characterized by his liberalism, and the question of law as the limit of political powers is an important part of this political theory. This study aims to analyze the conceptions of John Locke about the laws and the legislative power (as well as the other powers of government) in relation with the preservation of men, free from any "royal" domination based only in the idea of natural power. Thus, we’ll start with the theses of John Locke on the legislative, executive and federative power, and their limitations, as they determine whether or not the state will be legitimate and consistent, which is important for Locke’s entire political philosophy, especially for the solutions of the problems that he puts for the Law. The idea is to explain the relationship of forces that make up the government, and how it is essentially limited by law.
