Author Guidelines

Articles under review may be submitted in PDF format, provided that all figures and tables are included together with the text, forming a single file to be uploaded. Please check the limits of pages, words, and characters for the type of article you are submitting.

If the authors are not familiar with editing TeX files, they may use the DOCX version of the template:

After the article has been accepted for publication, authors must send the editable file (TeX, DOCX, DOC, RTF, or ODT) to the journal’s editorial team. Alternatively, a link to the editable file on Overleaf may be provided.
If the authors use the BibTeX system for managing references, the .bib file must be submitted along with the .tex source.

References

The following rules must be observed when preparing references:

  • Citations in the text should refer to the reference list by number, in the order in which they appear in the manuscript. Alternatively, the author–date system may be used.

  • Direct quotations of up to three lines must appear within the text, enclosed in quotation marks.

  • Direct quotations longer than three lines must be indented and separated from the main text.

  • Explanatory notes should appear as footnotes.

  • Full references must be listed at the end of the article, in the order they appear in the text (or alphabetically, if the author–date system is used). References must follow the ABNT citation style, as in the examples below:

Book:
SURNAME (in full), First name (abbreviated). Title in italics: subtitle. Edition number, if not the first. Place of publication: publisher, year.

Edited volume (chapter):
SURNAME (in full), First name (abbreviated). Title of the chapter. In: SURNAME, First name (abbreviated) of the editor(s). Title of the book in italics: subtitle. Edition number, if not the first. Place of publication: publisher, year.

Journal article:
SURNAME (in full), First name (abbreviated). Journal name in italics, volume, issue number, initial page, year.
Example (illustrative only): Baym, G., Phys. Rev. Lett. 46, 235 (2010).

Dissertations and Theses:
SURNAME (in full), First name (abbreviated). Title in italics. Place. Total number of pages. Academic degree and field of study [Master’s Dissertation or Doctoral Thesis]. Institution where it was presented. Year.

Online documents:
SURNAME (in full), First name (abbreviated). Title in italics [Online]. Year. Availability: access link. [Accessed on: date].

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in PDF format, and the editable file (in .tex, .odt, .docx, .doc, or .rtf format) is kept for possible submission if the article is accepted for publication.
  • The URLs for the references are provided whenever possible.
  • The text is single-spaced, uses a 12-point font, employs italics rather than underlining (except for URLs), and figures and tables are inserted within the text rather than placed at the end of the document as appendices.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Author Guidelines, available on the About page of the journal.
  • Each author will be included in this submission with their first name, last name, and authorized email address. In the manuscript, it is sufficient to provide the corresponding author’s email, but all authors must be fully registered in the system with this information.

Regular articles

Regular articles should be between 6 and 12 pages, 3,000 and 8,000 words, 18,000 and 50,000 characters (including spaces), and contain between 0 and 10 figures. Exceptions for shorter or longer texts may be considered upon justification and approval by the Editorial Board.

Review articles

Review articles submitted to this journal should focus on a specific topic aimed at a general audience, starting with an explanation of the fundamental concepts in a didactic manner and progressing to its modern applications or implications. Review articles should be between 10 and 25 pages, 5,000 and 15,000 words, 30,000 and 80,000 characters (including spaces), and contain no more than 20 figures. Authors of review articles are expected to have relevant expertise in the topic being addressed.

Educational texts

This section is dedicated to educational materials, such as summaries, lesson plans, and other short texts that can be readily used in teaching activities. The expected length for this type of contribution is similar to that of a regular article, although it may exceptionally be longer, similar to a review article.

Ciência é 10!

Articles written in the context of the Ciência é 10! (C10!) specialization course are published in this section, following the guidelines set by the program coordinators.

Mestrado Profissional em Ensino de Física

Dissertations from the Professional Master's Program in Physics Education (MPEF) may be published in article format in this section, following the guidelines set by the program coordinators.

Authors who publish in this journal agree to the following terms:

  1. Responsibility for content – The authors declare that the submitted material is their own work and that they hold the rights to all texts, images, tables, and other elements included in the manuscript. The authors assume full responsibility for the content presented and for any legal issues related to third-party copyrights.

  2. Copyright and first publication – Authors retain copyright and grant Physicae Organum the right of first publication, with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), which allows others to share the work with acknowledgment of its authorship and initial publication in this journal.

  3. Non-exclusive distribution and secondary publications – Authors may enter into additional, non-exclusive agreements for distributing the published version of their work (for example, posting it in institutional repositories, on personal websites, or including it as a book chapter), provided that such secondary publications do not compromise the Physicae Organum’s right of first publication and clearly acknowledge the authorship and original publication in this journal.

  4. Dissemination and impact – Authors are encouraged to post and share their work online (for example, in institutional repositories or on personal pages) prior to and during the submission and review process, as this can foster productive exchanges and increase the visibility and impact of the published work.
