Abstract

The article discusses aspects involved in teaching and learning structure in the schools of Architecture, aiming to its improvement. Its is demonstrated the intrinsic relationship between architectural forms and structure, and also the architect responsibility as designer of the building in its entirety. Exemplary professionals and projects are presented as references. Possible historical reasons to justify the doubts about the competence of the architect to solve the structural issues given the coexistence with the engineer in the same playing field are analyzed. Some proposals for didactic procedures are presented, with emphasis on the challenges of working life, in particular the development stages of structural design and the necessary dialogue with other related designers aiming to quality and innovation.
