Since 2010, north-central Chile has been severely hit by a drought that intensely affected urban areas and profoundly affected rural life between 2019 and 2021. Through interviews with members of rural communities in the Combarbalá area, located in a foothills area of central-northern Chile, we explore oral discourses from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) to identify and analyze the way in which resources dialogic, mapped by the engagement system, contribute to construct the impact of the drought through the voices of authors and recipients of these oral discourses.
