Abstract

This article aims to show that: a) the translation that descends from the Grammar-Translation Method is not, and never was, translation; b) appeals made to the Communicative Approach to refuse to use translation are unfounded; c) translation as an activity or skill to be developed if perfectly matched with the philosophy of AC. It is hoped, in this way, to dispel one of the many myths surrounding the role of translation in the teaching / learning of foreign languages.
