A UTILIZAÇÃO DE DICIONÁRIOS DE LÍNGUA PORTUGUESA EM SALAS DE AULA DO ENSINO FUNDAMENTAL
Keywords:
dictionary, vocabulary teaching, elementary school, junior high schoolAbstract
Teaching vocabulary at the Elementary and Junior High School levels is unfortunately still an issue that has not been dealt with in sufficient detail, since many pedagogical materials available on the market give priority to reading comprehension and grammar instead of vocabulary in different contexts. Even pocket dictionaries, tools which should be constantly used in the classroom, are barely used. The purpose of this study was to review and discuss the theoretical contributions of Lexicography and Lexicology, analyze so-called school dictionaries as to how appropriate they are for use at these levels, and suggest methodological strategies to improve students’ vocabulary.
