What do the aldermen indicate?

The article analyzes the political practices of the municipality aldermen of Coqueiros do Sul (RS), starting from the legislative recourse of "indications" in 2013, understanding it as a central mechanism of parliamentarians to local political representation. From a critical and qualitative approach, focused on the approach of History of the Present Time, identifies the aldermen as "representatives of interests" and typifies their practices as "electoral clientelists". Interpreting how such practices originated in the "laboratory of emancipation" in the creation of the municipality in the early 1990s, marking its political layer by the dispute and maintenance of power, characterizing citizens as "consumers of services". Problematizing such idiosyncrasies of political representation in a young and small municipality, we address understandings about intersections between power, interests and local political representation practices in the brazilian New Republic.
