Sobre a imaginação: de Sartre a Merleau-Ponty

The article investigates how Merleau-Ponty understands the experience of imagination throughout his work. We analyze two decisive moments. In the first, we emphasize the proximity to the philosophy of Sartre - despite the differences that separate them, because of the centrality of the body in the Phenomenology of Perception - which invites us to think the imagination as an exercise of the freedom of the consciousness. Secondly, Merleau-Ponty realizes the idealism inherent in the Sartre proposal, and he opens a new field to approach the imagination: the philosopher examines the corporeal and passive character of the imaginary productions, through reference to Freudian psychoanalysis and the symbolic approach undertaken by this
