La ciudad de La Paz muestra su rostro abigarrado y pródigo en la fiesta del Gran Poder, retratada en la novela de Juan Pablo Piñeiro Cuando Sara Chura despierte (2003). Es esta una narrativa disparatada que reconstruye la ciudad en las formas de la mezcla, procurando la contemporaneidad donde se transforman lo occidental y lo andino. El relato se reconoce como un fenomenal tejido en que pasado y presente, castellano y aymara, se imbrican para soñar el fin de la desigualdad, encarnada en la fiesta.
